The Classic Filipino Card Game

Tongits is one of the most beloved card games in the Philippines, played by families and friends for generations. This exciting game combines strategy, skill, and a bit of luck, making it a favorite among Filipino players. At 365JL, you can now enjoy Tongits online with players from across the country.

What is Tongits?

Tongits is a three-player card game using a standard 52-card deck. The game originated in the Philippines and has become deeply embedded in Filipino culture. Players aim to form valid combinations of cards called "sets" (three or four cards of the same rank) and "runs" (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit).

Basic Rules

  • Each player receives 12 cards (13 for the dealer)
  • The remaining cards form the draw pile
  • Players take turns drawing and discarding cards
  • Goal: Form sets and runs to reduce your hand value
  • The game ends when a player "calls Tongits" or the draw pile is exhausted
  • Lowest hand value wins the round

Card Values

  • Number cards (2-10): Face value
  • Face cards (J, Q, K): 10 points each
  • Ace: 1 point (can also be used as high card in runs)

How to Play Tongits

Step 1: Join a Table

Log in to your 365JL account and navigate to the Cards Games section. Select Tongits from the available games and choose a table that matches your betting preference.

Step 2: Receive Your Cards

Once the game starts, you'll receive your cards. Organize them to identify potential sets and runs. Good hand management is crucial for success in Tongits.

Step 3: Draw and Discard

On your turn, draw one card from the draw pile or the discard pile. Then discard one card you don't need. Strategic discarding prevents opponents from completing their combinations.

Step 4: Form Combinations

Create sets (three or four of a kind) and runs (consecutive cards of the same suit). You can lay down these combinations to reduce your hand value, but revealing them gives opponents information about your hand.

Step 5: Call Tongits or Challenge

If your hand is completely formed into sets and runs, you can "call Tongits" to end the game immediately. Alternatively, you can "challenge" if you believe your hand value is lower than an opponent's.

Step 6: Scoring

When the game ends, players reveal their hands. Unmatched cards are counted. The player with the lowest hand value wins the pot. Special bonus payments apply for Tongits calls and successful challenges.

Tongits Strategy Tips

1. Memorize Discarded Cards

Keep track of which cards have been discarded. This helps you calculate the probability of drawing specific cards and predict opponents' strategies.

2. Balance Risk and Reward

Sometimes it's better to hold onto cards rather than reveal combinations. Revealed combinations reduce your hand value but give opponents valuable information.

3. Watch Your Opponents

Pay attention to which cards opponents pick up from the discard pile. This reveals what combinations they're trying to build.

4. Know When to Challenge

Challenging can be risky but rewarding. Only challenge when you're confident your hand value is lower than the opponent's hidden cards.

5. Manage Your Bankroll

Set limits on your betting and stick to them. Don't chase losses by increasing your bets beyond your comfort level.
